An intersting perspective

2003-03-27 - 3:00 p.m.

I've been sending e-mail back and forth with my Aunt Sana who lives in Jordan. We've been in correspondance for a while now, but since the war has started just one country over, I have a greater need to keep touch with my family.

So we, of course, got onto the topic of the war and she sheds an interesting perspective. First of all, the people in Jordan are very upset that the Jordanian government is not helping Iraq. There are protests and whatnot. It's apparantly pretty bad. Further, if the Jordanian gov't lets the US in to attack Iraq from their borders, she fears that civil war will break out.

We also discussed the Iraqi people and how they feel about Hussein. Her take on it is that he's like a strict parent - harsh, and seemingly unfair, but with their best interests at heart. Again, an interesting take.

Mind you, I'm not saying what I think is right or wrong, or that I agree or disagree with my Aunt in the slightest. My head is really cloudy about this whole issue, and I can see so many sides and layers. The only thing I definitely don't agree with is the fact that we bit our thumbs at the United Nations. Every other issue has multiple sides, but that one is just black and white for me. It puts forth this 'do as I say, not as I do' sort of attitude. Sigh....

Anyway, work is coming along nicely. Still no real results, but I'm starting to actually feel like an engineer (as opposed to a chemist). Today I wrestled with a reactor, among a bunch of other things. The weather is also amazing :-). It's sort of hard to sit here and do work while there's such nice weather going on outside. But I'll be going hiking this weekend, so I'll get to enjoy it then :-).

The bad news is that I have been consistently eating badly for about the last 3 or so weeks, and it's starting to show! I was all set to get back on track today, but we went to Fabiano's for lunch. Oh well, at least I have kickboxing tonight :-D. Maybe I'll just have canteloup for dinner or something.... mmm... that sounds really yummy!

I'm rambling... time to get back to work!
