Stupid Airlines!

2003-03-31 - 1:11 p.m.

I have a bridal shower to go to over Easter weekend. It's in Allentown, PA, so I figured that if I go it would involve me flying into Newark, spending Friday night with Mike, driving out to Allentown on Saturday for the shower/bachelorette party, and drive home Sunday morning to spend Easter with my family.

Of course, I don't have a car in NJ, and I figured I probably couldn't afford to fly over Easter weekend, so I just sort of let it go as something I might do, but probably wouldn't.

So Friday, on a whim, I checked round trip airfare. $186.50. Wow, that's not bad. But, I figured that I should make sure I could get to Allentown before I invest nearly $200 in a plane ticket.

So I called home this weekend, and my mom was in Atlantic City until last night, so I had to wait until then to find out if I had access to a car. She told me I could take hers, and that if she had to go anywhere, she would have Omar drive her. PERFECT!

So I logged on, and the prices jumped to $215. GRR!!!

So of course, not learning from my mistakes, I decided to give it a day or two to come back down.

I checked today, $242.50!

I should have bought the tickets cheap and just figured it out from there. I'm debating buying them at the high price, since they probably will only climb from here. I'm just not sure if it will be worthwhile. Sure, you only get married once (in theory), and I am in the wedding, so I should be at the shower. But I'm only reading a passage, it's not like I'm a bridesmaid or anything. So is it that important for me to be there? And it's not like I'm going to get to see lots of people while I'm there, since I'll be gone all of Saturday and flying out on Sunday night. On top of that, it's one of my Atlanta friends. So it's not like I don't get to party with her all the time. But then, when she graduates this May and moves 1000 miles away, I won't get to party with her anymore. Well, I have a standing invitation to visit her any time, so I guess I could always party with her then. So is it really worth the money? I just don't know. Sigh....

Any advice? Ladies, especially those of you who are married, would you feel slighted if somebody involved in your wedding didn't fly 850 miles for your shower and bachelorette party? Let me know!
