Here comes the gamblin' bride
2003-04-16 - 3:04 p.m.
My friend Hollie just dropped a major bomb on me. This past weekend she went out to Vegas and got married. She did about a week's worth of planning and making arrangements, and then just did it. The kicker is that she has only known this guy for about 3 weeks or so. Well, she met him the weekend I was home, so I guess that's 4 weeks now. Anyway, she just knew. Just like that. He did the finacial mumbo jumbo on her new car, he gave her a really good deal, he took her out to dinner that night, and then drove 12 hours with her the next day to meet her mom in Kentucky to swap cars (she's trading in her mom's old car instead of her own old car). After that, he told her he would follow her to her new job in Phoenix, but she said she wasn't going to live with somebody again until she was married. So he said, 'let's get married!'. It started as a joke, but then they just did it!!! So, yes, I now know somebody who ran off to Vegas to get married :-). She said the strangest, most interestingly flattering thing to me as she was telling the story. She said, "I just knew, you know? Well, of course you know, you have the same thing with Mike." Now, outside of telling her the story of Joecook's wedding and that sort of thing, I don't recall ever telling her much about the relationship. She continued to say that the last time Mike was here and she got to see us together, that's how she is with her husband. It's just perfect. She said she has only seen it in a few couples, and is so thrilled to have it for herself. It was a nice thing to hear. But I better knock on some wood now just in case.... So anyway, the girls and I took her out to lunch. I'm still in shock. I mean, do people really run off to Vegas and elope? I guess they do!
